THIS WEEK'S DIY GUIDE

#35 Gearing Explained - Can I use it on my kart? What size sprocket do I need? How big are the sprockets?

When choosing #35 pitch gearing (which we highly recommend for projects due to the 2-piece split sprockets and removable link chains – see our chain guide https://www.cutpriceracing.com.au/store/Page17/ for more information) we are often asked the question “What is the inside diameter of your split sprocket?” and “What is the outside diameter of an x tooth sprocket” so we’ve decided to write this informative but straight-forward guide focussed on explaining what needs to be done to fit our standard race kart sprockets and gearing your project.

Generally, when gearing your project, you have 3 problems to overcome.
1. Fitting the sprocket to your axle
2. Ensuring the overall sprocket size does not foul on the ground or chassis
3. Selecting a practical starting gear ratio

This guide will run you through the decision making process as well as provide technical details on the products so that you can decide if #35 race kart gearing is suitable for your project. I’ll run through these three sections quickly but informatively in the hope I don’t bore you, but that you have easy access to the information needed to get it right the first time.

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Every Friday we'll be posting one of our fantastic customer DIY projects. These have been designed and built using quality CPR kart parts by guys and girls just like you! There's some really exciting stuff to check out, so keep an eye out each Friday for our next instalment!

This week:

Terry's CPR component Arrow 4-stroke race kart rebuild!

While everyone else has been sleeping, backyard engineer Terry has been fettling this incredible build. Starting with just a bare frame, he's managed to complete an awesome 4-stroke build worthy of anyone's garage!

Terry has managed to do what most CPR clients try to acheive - a ground up restoration of a used frame, using cost-effective CPR Kart Parts to produce a super-modern kart at a fraction of the price of a similar brand new kart.

Have a look at what Terry has achieved! Doesn't it look awesome!

Almost all parts on Terry's kart are CPR components,

I have a feeling you'll see Terry out at your track soon, so watch out - his kart is a belter! You may only see the rear end of it though!

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN - THIS WEEK WE UPDATE YOU ON GEOFF'S POPULAR MINI LOTUS 7 PROJECT!

"In this episode all the major fabrication is complete so I make a start on the TODO list. I adjusted the shifter linkages to the correct spot as well as rebuilding the bonet hinge so it works without all the slop of the old one and i finish the pedals with throttle mount brackets."

You've seen that dream car - the deep gloss paint glistening in the sun, beckoning you closer to touch it's smooth surface - to open it's door, jump into the driver's seat and turn that key (or press that button if your dream is a bit more modern). And then the reality hit's - it's not yours - and worse still, you can't afford it. It's the reality most of us motor enthusiasts suffer on a a daily basis. BUT WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUST DREAM?

That's when Geoff decided it was time to change the rules. Affordability didn't have to get in the way of his dream! He chose to build his own - a 1/2 scale version of a Lotus 7. BRILLIANT! We agree! Thinking outside the box or square or circle is what Geoff is also talented at, and because his project is going to be just as much fun, he's decided to take us all along for the ride! Thanks Geoff!
